Penn State student Brian Mearns was arrested early yesterday morning after an altercation on the 200 block of Locust Lane. Mearns was arraigned on charges of escape, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol.

According to court documents, State College Police Department officers responded to a fight between Mearns and another man at about 2 a.m. Mearns struggled and resisted arrest until he was taken to the ground and handcuffed. One witness told police that Mearns said he had a gun, and he was trying to start fights with several people.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
