W. GYMNASTICS vs. WVU, URI & Yale 7 p.m. tomorrow at Rec Hall

Tomorrow night, the No. 18 Penn State women's gymnastics team will be looking to build on its success from last week's meet against Central Michigan when the Nittany Lions face Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Yale at Rec Hall.

After dropping their first meet at Alabama, the team responded last week with an impressive 195.575-193.125 win against Central Michigan.

Women's gymnastics coach Steve Shephard said this week's practices have focused on refining each athlete's individual routine while building consistency.

Shephard also noted that Meredith Hoover has done a great job on the uneven bars during practice this week. The bars have been a problem for Penn State early in the season.

"I think we found a routine that she can compete in comfortably," he said. "Hopefully, this is the answer."

In the first meet of the season, Penn State scored 47.925 on the uneven bars. Against Central Michigan, the Lions managed only 47.925.

Shephard noted that each team competing in the meet is very talented, especially West Virginia, which is ranked No. 22.

The team will also be holding an "open house" today from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the White Building. Refreshments will be served and Shephard encourages all fans to come out and meet the players and coaches.
