Column utilizes 'faulty' statistics, misinforms
This is in response to Joe Carey's column Wednesday ("Bush administration's use of fear, misinformation has rest of world on alert," Jan. 28). Carey has probably never heard of the Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998. In it, the United States made clear that its goal was to eventually remove Saddam's murdering regime. Former president Bill Clinton signed this act. Every presidential cabinet since before World War II has had at least one former Halliburton official in it. Halliburton was also the favorite of the Clinton administration. Under another name, Halliburton won a contract in 1992, and worked in Haiti, Somalia and Bosnia. In 1997, the contract was up for bid and Halliburton lost. However, the Clinton administration decided to award a sole-source contract to Halliburton to continue working. Citing the Iraqi Body Count Web site as a source is laughable. It uses the ever non-biased Al Jazeera as a source. It also includes Iraqis killed by other Iraqis. Even with those faulty statistics, they still don't compare to how many people Saddam killed. Matthew Glunt
