Clear sidewalks first, Paterno statue second

I was not at all surprised to find Penn State running on a regular schedule when I woke up early yesterday morning. I have been here for four years, just long enough to realize that if we had classes during ice storms and in three feet of snow, we had nothing to hope for with these recent "flurries."

However, if there is no delay, are clean sidewalks too much to ask for at this university? Apparently so, unless of course you count the three members of the Office of Physical Plant diligently working to clear snow around the Joe Paterno statue and the private suites entrance at Beaver Stadium. While students are slipping and sliding all over campus on their way to their regularly scheduled classes, at least they can take comfort in knowing the sidewalks by Beaver Stadium are safely cleared.

If students are expected to do their "jobs" by attending classes despite the weather, perhaps the administration should do its job by providing a safe environment for the students of Penn State.
