Penn State head baseball coach Joe Hindelang has announced senior Jim Farrell and senior Brett Showalter have been voted on overwhelmingly to lead the Nittany Lions as team captains during the 2004 season.
"Our players recommended both outfielder Brett Showalter and pitcher Jim Farrell as co-captains and our staff concurred," said Hindelang, who will be entering his 14th year as the skipper of Penn State baseball. "Our coaching staff believes that they both possess outstanding leadership skills and each have shown a work ethic that is exemplary."
Farrell is coming off a season in which he posted a 7-3 record, including five wins in Big Ten Conference action. He had 60 strikeouts and two complete games for a 3.47 ERA over 70 innings and 15 appearances. He was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team for his efforts. He will be one of Penn State's top starters this season.
Showalter saw limited action in 38 games in 2003. He had three doubles, six RBI and nine walks in 47 plate appearances. He will be the starting rightfielder for the Nittany Lions this season.
