Kelly Mazzante was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week after a stellar two-game campaign against then No. 9 Minnesota Thursday and Ohio State Sunday. It is the fourth time this year that Mazzante has been honored, and the 16th time in her career, a Big Ten women’s basketball record.
She shares this week’s award with Purdue’s Shereka Wright who scored 45 points over last week’s two-game span against Indiana and Ohio State.
On Thursday Mazzante helped the Lady Lions stay a perfect 4-0 against top-10 teams by scoring 29 points, as the Lady Lions defeated Minnesota, 75-56.
Later in the week, Mazzante helped the Lady Lions overcome a 24-16 firsthalf deficit to defeat the Buckeyes, 70-64. In the first-half of the game she hit four 3-pointers. She finished the contest with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting, making five 3-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds.
Mazzante shot a blistering 16-for-31 over the two-game span, and shot 55 percent from beyond the arc during those two games.
