Letter wrongly assumes all PSU whites 'racist'
This is in response to Gandarvaka Gray's letter yesterday ("Column missed mark in tackling social change," Jan. 26). There is an old saying: "It is better to sit there and look stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Obviously, Gray has yet to hear this saying. In pointing out the "mistakes" in Dustin Dopirak's column, Gray ironically displays ignorance. The point of Dopirak's column, if it had been read carefully, was not that blacks should accept the so-called racist ideology that Gray is so certain is the cornerstone of a few choice white students' beliefs. Rather, the point was that nobody on either side should lump a whole group of people into one category, as the student in question did when he said that 90 percent of the school was against them. I'm sure Gray would agree that it is wrong to label all African Americans as a group, and to assume that they all smoke marijuana, drink malt liquor, and love watermelon and fried chicken. But Gray seems to have no problem labeling all whites or Penn State College Republicans as ignorant racists. Some people should learn to think before they speak. Mike Curley
