Police are searching for a State College man who allegedly struck a woman in the face before taking $170 from her wallet and fleeing.
Zach Elliott, 30, is charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and harassment.
The State College Police Department responded to a call from the Ye Old College Diner, 126 W. College Ave., for the report of a robbery that occurred outside of Beaver Hill apartments, 340 E. Beaver Ave., just before 10 p.m. Sunday.
Tamekka Davis told police she had received a phone call from an acquaintance, Elliott, and met him later that evening at the diner with her boyfriend, Joseph McLaughlin.
Davis, McLaughlin and Elliott left the diner in Davis' car and drove onto South Fraser Street, then turned east on West Beaver Avenue. Davis said that as they approached South Garner Street, Elliott asked her to stop at the Beaver Hill apartment complex so he could pick up clothing from a friend who lives there.
Davis stopped on East Beaver Avenue just before the intersection and let McLaughlin step out and enter Uni-Mart, 151 S. Garner St. Davis continued to drive south on South Garner, then made a right into Beaver Hill using the east entrance.
Davis opened her purse to look for something and removed her wallet, which she placed in the console between the seats. Before Davis could react, Elliott struck her in the face with an open hand and grabbed her wallet, police said.
The defendant removed $170 from Davis' wallet and exited the vehicle, police said. Davis told police the defendant fled into Beaver Hill.
Police could not find Elliott downtown or at his parents' house in the area. Police did not provide a description or sketch of Elliott.
