Biology doesn't solve abortion debate clearly

Carleton Smith ("Logical facts support 'euthanasia' argument," Jan. 23) and Josh Martz ("Religion, privacy issue 'irrelevant' in abortions, Jan. 23") both use biology to claim that abortion is wrong.

The belief that "Life does not come from non-life" is the grounds for their argument. If a baby is alive at the point of inception, then it must be because both the egg from the mother and the sperm from the father are alive, according to their theory. So, if both the egg and the sperm are alive, then would it not be considered murder for an individual to "kill" an egg or a sperm? How many men do you know who masturbate? Well, with each ejaculation, that man is killing precious life. How many women go through their period? Each time a woman goes through her cycle, she is killing precious life.

Given the argument, is society ready to accept themselves as murderers and continue murdering for their desires? I think not.
