A study released last Thursday has found a lack in the number of women holding full professorships in the fields of engineering and science.

Penn State, a state-related commonwealth university, will not be directly affected by the possible strike by professors at Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned universities, said university spokesman Bill Mahon.

A new commission, involving government, business and education leaders, has assigned the nation's school students their newest homework assignment.

SPORTS

Forget Penn State's two early turnovers in the first two minutes. Forget the nine point deficit the Lady Lions found themselves in at the 12:49 mark of the first half. Forget that last night was a battle throughout the entire first half, as evidenced by a halftime score that was knotted at 34.

A hallmark of Big Ten wrestling is its depth. Even most of the conference's lesser lights are ranked and have proven talent up and down their lineups. A weekend with Michigan and Illinois can leave a team battered and looking for respite, but in the Big Ten there is no rest for the weary.

Confidence was riding high on the Penn State men's track team at least week's meet. Doubts loomed around the Horace Ashenfelter III Track, but the Nittany Lions edged and overcame. The Lions will look to improve upon last week's invitational meet this weekend at West Point, N.Y.

The Penn State women's indoor track team hits the road this weekend for its first away meet of the season.

Penn State will be looking for redemption this weekend. Luckily for the Ice Lions the schedule makers pulled through, and the Ice Lions have a huge game after a recent loss. The Ice Lions(19-5) will battle No. 1 New York University(13-1) today and unranked William Patterson(6-13) tomorrow.

After being ranked third in the nation by the United States Fencing Coaches Association on Wednesday, Penn State (0-1) will get a chance to prove it's deserving of its ranking, just three days later.

This weekend, the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions men's volleyball team (2-2) continues with its brutal non-conference schedule, which already included playing the defending national champions, Lewis, twice.

There's nothing like an early morning Sunday face-off, especially a 6:15 a.m. start -- the kind of start time you used to face week in and week out (if you played youth hockey, that is).

With three meets left in the regular season for the Penn State men's swimming and diving team, the focus is on the Big Ten championships and NCAA championships.

Letting go of the past is a healthy sign of maturity and development.

She's been called many things.

Tonight at 7 in Rec Hall, Penn State and Illinois will thrown down in the biggest wrestling match these parts have seen since the Nittany Lions and Minnesota, both ranked in the top five at the time, met at the Bryce Jordan Center in Feb 1998.

Shiny hardware has a funny way of bringing out a team's best efforts. Heck, it's brought the best out of the No. 1 Penn State ACHA Div. I Icers and coach Joe Battista for four straight years now.

ARTS

If you look closely, somewhere among the cover bands and textbooks that are so prevalent in State College, somewhere between the "paint your own pottery" and a Bon Jovi poster, there is a more creative and original scene in this town.
