Fencing

vs. St. Johns
10:30 a.m. tomorrow at White Building

After being ranked third in the nation by the United States Fencing Coaches Association on Wednesday, Penn State (0-1) will get a chance to prove it's deserving of its ranking, just three days later.

The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams will compete in the final home dual meet of the season at 9 a.m. tomorrow, at the White Building.

The meet will feature a match-up with St. John's.

St. John's, one of the top teams on a yearly basis, finished just behind the second-place Nittany Lions in last year's combined national championship.

St. John's men's team is ranked No. 4 and the women's team is ranked No. 7.

Penn State will face the Red Storm starting at 10:30 a.m.

"It will be quite a difficult match for us," Penn State fencing coach Emmanuil Kaidanov said.

"We're supposed to beat three of the four opponents. Against St John's, we will do our best."

The men's and women's team take on North Carolina at 9 a.m. and finish the day against Duke at 1:30 p.m.

The men's team will face Haverford College at noon, while the women's team goes against Hunter College.

The women's team will have to take on the task of dealing with a key injury. With senior Heather Brosnan out with an injury, Kaidanov said changes had to be made to his line up.

To fill the void in women's saber, freshman Sophia Hiss will be switching over from foil.

"Because of the injury in our saber team I had to make some changes," Kaidanov said.

"We're strong in foil so it shouldn't decrease our power in women's foil. It will definitely affect women's saber but we will do our best."
