The 8 a.m. debate
I am happy to see that Penn State is scaling back on 8 a.m. classes. I was never a fan of them. Most students do not like to rise before the rooster crows on a winter morning. If the tuition-paying student body does not feel they are benefiting from early classes, they should have the right to appeal to the administration to change scheduling policies.
Granted, this all hinges on student activism, which in part is dependent on your leaders taking a stand on the issue. So tell your Undergraduate Student Government senators to stop wasting time debating a Halloween incident and to do some real work. If you don't like waking up before 8 a.m., then you shouldn't have to. And this goes for the post-collegiate world as well. It's not as if every workday starts at 9 a.m.
If quality of life is important to you, then be your own boss and make your own hours. Either that, or work the swing shift.
