The Newport Jazz Festival will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a stop at Eisenhower Auditorium on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The festival's scheduled lineup includes Howard Alden, James Carter, James Moody, Lewis Nash, Cedar Walton, Peter Washington and Grammy award-winning trumpeter Randy Brecker.
First held in July of 1954, The Newport Jazz Festival was the first outdoor music event devoted entirely to jazz. While the show has become a tradition in the jazz world, the musicians in this year's lineup have formal connections to several of jazz's biggest names, from Dizzy Gillespie to Frank Zappa.
Tickets are $29 for general audience members, $16 for full-time University Park students and $22 for ages 18 and under. They are available at Eisenhower Auditorium, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, the HUB-Robeson Center Information Desk, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and Penn State Tickets Downtown (in the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center, 146.
