Getting up early part of living, being an adult

College students shouldn't have 8 a.m. classes because they can't wake up in the morning for class? Let's think about this for a second.

Before we came to college we were high school students. I would think it is fair to say that as high school students, we had to get up and go to morning classes. I'm sure it differs from student to student, but I would bet that a large majority of the student body had to be at his or her high school by 8 a.m.

Now let's think about what happens after college. We hopefully graduate and get jobs. Again, this is going to differ from student to student, but I'm guessing a lot of those jobs would require that you be at work by 8 a.m. Maybe there is something wrong with this picture.

I find it hard to be that between the age of 18 and 22 it suddenly becomes impossible to get up by 8 a.m. Suck it up and deal with it. Plan your schedule and try to avoid 8 a.m., if you can. Go to bed an hour earlier if you can't. Skip the Tuesday night drinking session if you have to. Don't put off your assignments until the night before they are due. Take some responsibility for yourself. I think we would all like to be able to sleep in, but it doesn't always work that way. Sorry, but that is how life works sometimes. I have to give the university credit for realizing that students don't like 8 a.m. classes, but I have known a lot of students that didn't like 9:05 a.m. classes or 75-minute classes or English class. That doesn't mean that all of those classes should be eliminated.
