Student arraigned on identity theft charges

Penn State student Kathleen Bragunier was arraigned on charges yesterday of charging more than $400 worth of items to her roommate’s credit card account.

A woman reported to the State College Police Department in December that she had received a package from Abercrombie & Fitch that she did not order. The bill said the charges were made to her credit card.

The victim reported she had not authorized anyone to use her credit card and suspected her roommate made the purchases.

Police said Bragunier admitted to using the card for the Abercrombie & Fitch purchases to inconvenience her roommate, according to court documents.

The victim then learned of earlier purchases on her credit card, including items from Target, Claire's jewelry, Express, Exxon/Mobile and other Nittany Mall Stores.

Police said Bragunier also admitted making these purchases and to forging the victim's name on receipts.

Bragunier was charged with forgery, access device fraud, identity theft, theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 28.
