Photo caption misleads readers, hurts integrity
As a close friend of the Rosengrant family, an employee of the Rathskeller and a former Daily Collegian reporter and columnist, I find it appalling that a photo of Chris Rosengrant in the Jan. 16 edition of the Collegian was accompanied by a caption indentifying the subject of the photograph as Jason Rosengrant. In my time as a journalism student at Penn State, and during the period I spent writing for the Collegian, my fellow reporters, students and I were taught that if you can't get your facts straight -- the little facts, like people's names -- no one will believe your reporting. What is the public to think if you don't do your work, become lax and run a story with a photo identifying the wrong person? As a Collegian alum, I find it disheartening to know that the organization I chose to be a building block of my career now cannot distinguish one person from another. Charles Bartlett
