Readers respond to letter demanding students to get off 'little butt'
Re: "Students 'waste' time, money through laziness," Jan. 15. I can see where Roland O. Reed thinks students are being lazy about not wanting to attend 8 a.m. classes, but there are the few who do want to get into class and get done as early as possible. I think, with increasing applications and student enrollment, that having the same class offered at different times is a great idea. Times change with every generation. What Reed chose to do 40 years ago might not fit what students want today. And Reed's right -- those who make the wrong choice will flunk out. But that is also a part of the college experience. Being able to make choices help teach students of today to make better choices in life, even if it takes them four, five or six years to graduate. I believe that college is not just a book education, but a life education as well. James Leatherman
