New state standards for automobiles will require some Penn State students to journey back to their home county in order to make their cars legal.

"I think it was love at first sight," said Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar about his 1985 ascension to the county's top law enforcement office. "Once I got a little taste of what goes on in the D.A.'s office, I knew that was all I wanted to do."

The water fountains in the HUB-Robeson Center might be separated for different races today if the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision of 1954 had not ruled that segregated public schools were not equal and therefore were unconstitutional.

While most students were relaxing during the winter break, a group of 18 students from the child advocacy group Rescue Childhood volunteered for eight days in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

Massachusetts became the first state in the nation last year to rule that same-sex couples have the legal right to marry. For many people, Nov. 18, 2003, was a celebration of freedom. For others, it was a day to start fighting to overturn the ruling.

A student reported to Penn State University Police that an unknown male entered her dorm room around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. The man left the room in McKee Hall after being confronted by the student.

Members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, 200 E. Beaver Ave., yesterday waived their right to a preliminary hearing at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, on five charges of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors.

A judge removed a man from an accelerated rehabilitation course for DUI offenders Tuesday, nearly one month after his denial from the program was reversed because of alleged racial discrimination.

Festivities celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day begin throughout campus today.

Former Penn State student Sean Clark recently demanded in an e-mail message to Senate President Erin Ferris that the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate release minutes taken during an executive session closed to the public and press at the body's Dec. 9 meeting.

Today it seems there are lists for everything -- "Most Romantic Cities," "Pet Healthiest Cities" and even "America's Sweetest Cities."

Michigan women's basketball coach Cheryl Burnett has a simple response when asked about the Lady Lions' season thus far.

Like many other teams that are about to start its season, the Penn State men's track and field team has a lot questions that need to be answered as early as possible.

The Penn State women's indoor track team will look to jump off the starting block this Saturday on its home track. After a very successful 2003 campaign that resulted in a third-place finish at last year's Big Ten Championships, the squad is poised to have another standout season.

About a dozen times during the 40 minutes that the Penn State men's basketball team tried to compete with Michigan State last night, the Spartan fans in the Breslin Center got to play a big role on defense.

There will be more at stake tonight for one member of the Penn State women's basketball team than just another Big Ten game when the No. 8 Lady Lions (11-3, 4-0 Big Ten) travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines (9-7, 2-1) at 7.

When the Penn State wrestling team took the mat more than a month ago against Navy, five wrestlers were making the first dual-meet start of their careers.

ARTS

Picturing life in the United States before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks is difficult; picturing it in the midst of the civil rights movement is even more difficult.

A renowned Washington, D.C.-based band will provide '30s- and '40s-era music Saturday night for an upbeat installment of Late Night Penn State with an open swing dance featuring the Brooks Tegler Big Band.

Miss Saigon, one of Broadway's longest running and internationally acclaimed musicals, will entertain audiences at the Eisenhower Auditorium from Wednesday to Saturday.

A collection of rarely-shown American art will escape its cardboard boxes for an exhibition at the Palmer Museum of Art this semester.

Local jam band Harvey Controls Everything has come a long way since its early gig at a strip club in Port Matilda.

Posh coffee shops and hot beverages seem to be all the craze these days, and they're getting more complicated than the cup 'o' joe that used to be up to par.

Upcoming events at the Bryce Jordan Center include WWE Raw on Monday, Feb. 2 and country singer Toby Keith on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Adoption, neurosis, the search for one's past -- few films have tackled these topics with as much humor as David O. Russell's 1996 comedy, Flirting With Disaster. The film, which stars Ben Stiller, is a wild and irreverent road movie, one that features biting wit with a healthy dose of amusing slapstick comedy.

This weekend marks one of the largest-scale Late Night Penn State lineups of the semester, featuring ballroom dancing, massage therapy and free billiards. But perhaps the most compelling attraction will be renowned hypnotist Tom Deluca, who will perform at 10 p.m. tomorrow in HUB Alumni Hall.
