Sigma Alpha Epsilon waives preliminary trial

Members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, 200 E. Beaver Ave., yesterday waived their right to a preliminary hearing at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, on five charges of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors.

According to court documents, the charges stem from a Sept. 27 incident in which police were called by a fraternity member requesting treatment for a woman found unconscious in the fraternity's bathroom.

Police said the woman, a 19-year-old Penn State student, had suffered an alcohol overdose. She was found with her eyes rolled back in her head and she smelled strongly of alcohol.
