Posh coffee shops and hot beverages seem to be all the craze these days, and they're getting more complicated than the cup 'o' joe that used to be up to par.
Especially now that classes have started and it's colder than ever outside, a hot, tasty drink and some caffeine may be all it takes to get you through your day.
Though you can stop anywhere from the HUB-Robeson Center to Starbucks, there are a few choice places and beverages I to give you just the pick-me-up and warm, fuzzy feeling you need.
First of all, if you still desire that good old-fashioned cup of coffee, you can head to just about any food establishment in State College. But if you're looking for a perfect cup of coffee with a smooth yet bold taste, I suggest you head to Irving's Bagels, 110 E. College Ave. Irving's has several blends that will prove that simplicity is sometimes a wise choice.
If you're looking for something like ... a grande café mocha with skim milk, n-n-no, soy milk, with a double shot of espresso and, oh, hold the foam, please ... then Starbucks Coffee, 232 W. College Ave., is one of the best places to turn. The popular yet somewhat pricey joint has just about any caffeine dream you can come up with, and then some.
If you're looking for the caffeine but don't like coffee, a café mocha from Starbucks creates just the right combination of chocolate and coffee.
Even better is a mint mocha, which is a café mocha with a hint of mint. Its candy cane-like appeal is a taste sensation, especially during the holidays.
If you need something a little bit stronger (this goes out to those of you who have 8 a.m. classes) and you dig the foam, a cappuccino from the Daily Grind Coffee House, 107 E. Beaver Ave., might be in order. This place offers a single or double shot of espresso, depending on just how great of a jolt you need, and also creates a very chill environment for studying.
If you're looking for a little less caffeine, Saint's Café, 123 W. Beaver Ave., offers a spiced chai tea that's to die for. It's smooth and sweet with just the right touch of spices. You might even say it's heavenly.
And if you just got done playing in the snow, the best place to grab a cup of hot chocolate is Starbucks or, for a sweeter variety, Panera Bread, 148 S. Allen St.
Whatever kind of beverage you dig, try to stay warm -- and awake -- this winter.
