NEWS

A local real estate investment company has proposed to reconstruct the 100 block of South Garner Street by adding two new apartment and commercial buildings.

Local music retailers may have benefited from the 2003 holiday season as well as the recent slew of Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) lawsuits against file-sharing users.

A study released in October by U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. said the average freshman or sophomore attending a college or university in New York will pay $922 this year for books, an amount most Penn State students can relate to.

Centre County emergency response officials say the recent six-fatality accident on Interstate 80 stretched their resources thin, depleting some firefighting resources.

At the end of last semester, Black Caucus issued a list of demands and additions to be incorporated into the university's written diversity policies, and its members are now looking for action.

On a personal Web site he made for a class, Adam Hampton, a junior and crime, law and justice major said, "Thus far I have truly enjoyed my college experience and am excited for what's to come."

Information Sciences and Technology (IST) classes, which were reportedly scheduled to begin in the new IST building this month, will move to the location later this semester.

A bit of anticipation is in the air as thoughts of NASCAR race through the minds of those interested in a new entertainment venue as well as improving Centre County's economy.

With the sky still dark, thousands of alarm clocks shriek across campus and in students' apartments.

State College ranks fifth among the top 20 worst areas in the country for potential damage

SPORTS

Compiled by The Collegian Basketball Writers

The career path of Penn State 125-pound wrestler Adam Smith has mirrored that of his team. As a true freshman in 2001, Smith was pushed into the starting lineup and, as most freshmen do, he struggled. As a team, the Nittany Lions were not much better, finishing 35th at the NCAA Championships.

With a No. 8 ranking and a 4-0 record in the Big Ten, Penn State women's basketball coach Rene Portland has some things to be happy about.

The freshman guards are maturing, Jan Jagla has become a fan favorite and Ed DeChellis has restored optimism to the Penn State men's basketball program not seen in -- well, quite some time.

Was it really just three seasons ago that this program was on its way to the Sweet 16?
