Penn State President Graham Spanier announced yesterday that implementation of the Napster online music service was successful on all of Penn State's campuses.
The system was accessible at 3 p.m. Friday for both University Park and Commonwealth Campus residents, Spanier said.
By 9 a.m. yesterday, about 2,600 of the 18,000 students eligible for the service had registered for it. By 2 p.m., 5,307 students had registered for it.
By yesterday afternoon, 100,000 songs had been downloaded or streamed.
Sam Haldeman, assistant to the associate vice provost for information technology services, said no problems had been reported, and the system was operating "flawlessly."
A press release issued yesterday said the information would be used to help the university make any changes to the program before making it available to off-campus students in the fall.
