Lancaster -- After weeks of anticipation, Jordan Steffy is a Maryland Terrapin.
The highly touted Conestoga Valley High School quarterback announced his decision to play for Maryland last night at a press conference at the Lancaster Hosts Resort in front of an audience of over 200 friends, family and media.
Steffy sat behind the table adorned with sweatshirts featuring the logos of the final five schoools he was considering: Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Maryland, Clemson and lastly Penn State.
After a brief introduction, in which he thanked all of those people involved throughout his long recruiting process, Steffy stunned the crowed and then put on a Spartans football jersey.
"I put this jersey on for a couple of reasons," Steffy said. "Not only does it show that I respect Jeff Smoker, it shows that I look up to him. After watching what's he done, for Michigan State, I'd like to announce at this time, that I'd like to do the same for the University of Maryland."
Immediately after he finished that rousing statement, he lifted up a number 19 Terrapins jersey that featured his last name on the back.
"I think the opportunity there is what sold me," Steffy said. "[Maryland quarterback] Scotty McBride is a senior and their second string quarterback is a senior. With that said and the location, I felt in the end it was the best place. This was by far the toughest decision I've had to make in my life."
Steffy went on to tell those in attendance that he had not even considered attending Penn State in the fall, until he took his official visit a few weeks ago.
Originally, the Penn State staff had only offered a scholarship to one quarterback, that person was Wilson High School playcaller Chad Henne.
Once Henne mad his commitment to the University of Michigan, Steffy became one of the Lions' prime prospects.
"The morning that Chad Henne announced that he'd attend Michigan, I was still asleep at eleven in the morning. The Penn State cocahing staff said Chad had decided to go to Michigan and now Penn State was going to start recruiting me hard," Steffy said.
He said his final five schools of preference, in order, were Maryland, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Michigan State, and Clemson.
