U.S. Rep. John Peterson, R-5, announced yesterday that Congress has appropriated $600,000 for Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) toward new "smart bus" technology and $800,000 for a new terminal to be built along with Schlow Memorial Library, 100 E. Beaver Ave.
The new "smart bus" technology will include automatic on-board bus stop announcements, automatic vehicle locators, passenger counters and on-board video cameras.
A new bus terminal at Schlow will replace the current benches and retaining wall that now serve as the only seating available. The library's new design allows for CATA to build a space to protect passengers from inclement weather while they wait.
