I was disappointed when I read the Collegian yesterday ("USG debates photos," Dec. 10). I feel it is a newspaper's obligation and duty to include both sides of an argument. At the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate meeting I spoke on behalf of those students whose voices are not being heard.
There are people on this campus, like me, who are outraged in regards to the offensive costumes at the College Republicans' party, but we realize that this does not speak for the organization as a whole, nor does it mean that all members of the College Republicans are racist.
I am upset and offended by the costumes, as are other people and organizations, but I am also upset and offended that people are jumping to conclusions that all members of the College Republicans, including members of USG, are racists simply because they are members of College Republicans. I know that these people did not mean to hurt others, and if they did, they truly are sorry. I ask the student body: please do not allow your feelings against a few to cause you to take unwarranted and unjust actions against all members of the College Republicans.
