"We steal from all of our favorite bands," Pezzimenti said. "But our favorite bands are the best bands of all time."
Even though The Five Maseratis has been together for more than two years, the band just recently emerged from basements and garages to play its music publicly in the Washington, D.C. area and around the region.
"It's only because of our unbelievable arrogance that we haven't played out much," Pezzimenti said.
All of the band members have played in State College, but Roustabout! will be the debut of The Five Maseratis as a band here.
"We love Penn State. You know [Playland, 350 E. College Ave.]? That's my favorite thing there," Pezzimenti said.
After being told Playland closed last week, Pezzimenti got a little quiet.
"Well that's kind of a letdown."
The Five Maseratis found out about Roustabout! from friends in The ShakeDowns, who last played in the concert series in October. "Jeff [Van Fossan] and company put on a fantastic night. It's always a good time," vocalist and guitarist J. Navarro said. "We'd play it every week if we could."
This will be the first time for The Five Maseratis and The ShakeDowns to play the same show. The bands have more combined concerts planned within the next month.
"We're a wild rock band," Navarro said. "Our styles of music are almost completely different, but our shows go together well."
Navarro said The ShakeDowns' sound has evolved, even since the last time the band played in State College.
"Our roots are sort of in punk rock, and now it's really just about being huge," he said. "We have a new member of the band on keyboards ... she adds a new dimension to the band."
While The Five Maseratis are new to the area, WKPS-FM (90.7) Indie 500 staff head Dave Walk said The ShakeDowns already get a lot of radio play.
"They're really energetic, really exciting and a great live band," he said.
Walk will be the Roustabout! DJ tonight -- a first for him, even though he has been to the show almost every week. "A lot of the DJs will play '60s retro-type stuff, and that's cool and everything, but there's a lot of good stuff out today," Walk said. "I'll play something to make them 'shake it like a Polaroid picture.' "
