The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) recently installed cameras in forests throughout the state, including ones near State College, in an attempt to discourage illegal dumping of garbage.

Several students began forming a new Republican student group after they became disconcerted with the College Republicans in light of recent events.

The press conference held yesterday allowed student leaders to respond to pictures posted on College Republican chair Brian Battaglia's Web site, but it also led to responses from other students involved in organizations.

The Undergraduate Student Government Academic Assembly and the University Faculty Senate are trying to change the GI general education requirements, but it might not be an easy transition.

Though a diversified curriculum remains a goal of the university, little progress was made this semester toward the implementation of a Latino-focused minor.

Starting next fall, students transferring to University Park from Commonwealth Campuses will have access to CD-ROMs designed to help them with the transition.

Two men reported being assaulted by a group comprising seven men and two women Friday night outside Gumby's Pizza, 300 S. Pugh St. The assault was reported to the State College Police Department at 3:38 p.m. Sunday. The men told police the male group members beat them while the women sprayed them with mace. One victim had two teeth knocked out, and the incident is under investigation, police said.

Penn State women's soccer was fortunate enough to have had an athlete like Christie Welsh to put a Blue and White stamp on the collegiate game. When she won the prestigious Hermann Trophy as the sport's top player in 2001, it was a landmark for the Nittany Lions.

"You're one minute away from a shutout."

Penn State point guard Jess Strom stepped into the post-game press conference Sunday evening wearing an old school Lady Lions Basketball jacket.

SCIHEALTH

So you're walking down Shortlidge Road naked or you fall down the Willard Building steps when your foot suddenly goes out from under you. Then you wake up. But what do seemingly bizarre dreams like these mean?

You don't need to go to medical school to be your own doctor for a cold. Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines can provide relief, but choosing the right one can cause a headache, said Dr. John Messmer, associate professor of family and community medicine at Hershey Medical Center.

Nothing says "holiday cheer" like giving the latest gadgets and gizmos. Here's what's hot for college students, organized for your wallet:

Since last December, more than 50 Penn State undergraduate and graduate students have been designing and building a small satellite in the hope of putting it into space.

ARTS

Action, adventure and scantily clad anime bombshells are invading State College, and getting a piece of it is as easy as reading a comic book.

Finally there is a Christmas accessory that will never go out of style.

Sick Of It All is going to rock at 8 tonight at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., with the heavy sound and angry lyrics State College punk fans have been waiting for.
