It is difficult for me as a Republican to gain respect on such a liberal campus as Penn State, and I am appalled that the president of the Republican organization on campus refuses to dissociate himself from the recent racist actions ("Pictures lead to call for resignations," Dec. 5).
Brian Battaglia is not only portraying himself and his friends as racist, but all the people that he supposedly represents as a student leader. Every organization should take a strong stand against discrimination.
It is not a matter of personal freedoms; it is a matter of respect and humanitarianism. Battaglia should step down immediately, if for no other reason than to save the students he represents from more disgrace.
