Letter to the Editor
Readers respond to College Republican photographs

Recently, the College Republicans held a "National Coming Out Day" to promote ideas and discussion in the community. Many of the members felt oppressed by the leftist faculty and students on campus, even discriminated against due to their political stance. Yet, the recently published photographs on the Web site of College Republicans chair Brian Battaglia undermines the credibility of the organization.

How can someone complain of discrimination, organize a coming out day, and then blatantly contradict himself? I realize that not all members of the College Republicans agree with the costumes, and I hope they share the same outrage at the disrespect for various groups on campus, including the black eye to their own organization. Although Battaglia accuses liberals of censorship, I completely believe in the freedom of speech for any person regardless of beliefs, but the actions of these few individuals are socially unacceptable.
