I first want to state that I am not a Democrat. But to clarify, I am not a Republican either. I am writing in response to Andrew Criado's extremely myopic column ("Liberals' hold over college campuses diminishing," Dec. 4). In Criado's little world, everyone is either a liberal or a conservative. Black or white. Sorry to bust your bubble, but the world has a whole rainbow of colors.
In fact, we are one of the only capitalist countries in the world that employs a two-party system. Every other country with a working democracy has a multitude of parties to better fit the different shades of gray.
Criado stated, "not only are the Democrats wrong ... but they are espousing their intolerance and ignorance they claim to abhor." This statement has some truth behind it -- extreme Democrats are intolerant and ignorant. But so are extreme Republicans. When you go so far into one wing, it's hard to see the other end very clearly, if at all.
Pay attention to the news. Whether it's Fox News or CNN, all the political consultants agree that the majority of Americans are sitting on the fence smack in the middle. Most people do not want to be labeled into a confined category anymore, and Criado needs to realize that.
