Letter to the Editor
Readers respond to column on liberal influence

I find it interesting that Andrew Criado, for all he demands respect for his beliefs and those of his fellow conservatives, finds it impossible to give respect to the intellectual capacities of our faculty members here ("Liberals' hold over college campuses is diminishing," Dec. 4). Yes, 61 percent of college students approve of President Bush's job in office, and yes, this must be disconcerting to the "liberal" professors. However, did Criado ever stop to think that, perhaps, those who have spent the lifetimes learning and teaching others, who are among the smartest people in the world, and who he (or his parents) trust enough to teach him, might be smarter? Is it possible that the reason faculty members are so liberal is that they are, indeed, smarter and more informed than he is? It cannot be purely coincidence that many professors are both brilliant and liberal.
