Women's volleyball wins five postseason honors

Big Ten women's volleyball champion Penn State collected five postseason honors yesterday as the league's all-conference teams were announced.

Freshman Cassy Salyer was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year by the conference head coaches and head coach Russ Rose was honored by the media with Co-Coach of the Year accolades.

Senior Cara Smith was unanimously named first team All-Big Ten with senior Erin Iceman and sophomore Sam Tortorello rounding out Penn State's three first team All-Big Ten honorees, the most of any league school.

Salyer's selection as Freshman of the Year marks the second consecutive season that the top freshman in the conference is a Nittany Lion, as Tortorello was honored last year.

Four-time All-America selection Bonnie Bremner (1996-99) picked up Penn State's first Freshman of the Year honor in 1996.

Salyer was also named to the Big Ten's All-Freshman team.
