Lions' Costlow named Academic All-American

Senior center Dave Costlow has been selected Penn State’s 32nd CoSIDA Academic All-American football player.

Costlow has been chosen a Second Team Academic All-American as selected by members of CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A quintet of Nittany Lions — Gino Capone, Andrew Guman, Michael Robinson, Gio Vendemia and Costlow — had been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team, with Capone, Costlow and Guman earning first team accolades.

Penn State has had 24 first team Academic All-America football players, 22 under Coach Joe Paterno. The Nittany Lions’ total of 32 Academic All-American football players ranks fifth among all NCAA institutions.

A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Costlow was featured as one of the five “Smartest Players in College Football,” in Sports Illustrated’s 2003 college football preview issue.
