This year's extended Thanksgiving break is so close students can smell turkey cooking at home, but workloads are still overwhelming many Penn Staters even with the break in sight.

As members of Congress reauthorize the Higher Education Act, Penn State officials are recommending that lawmakers increase student aid programs to make college more affordable instead of using price controls.

Local animal shelters experience an influx of cats and dogs at the end of the semester when relocating students can't bring their pets with them.

Being able to jump in a car and drive home is a luxury many Penn State students may take for granted.

An increase in the number of Penn State undergraduates pursuing multiple majors has led to mixed feelings regarding how prepared these students will be in the future.

Educators and politicians are calling for an increase in study abroad opportunities, saying that the events of Sept. 11, 2001 have lead to an increase in interconnected cultures.

Penn State sophomore wide receiver Maurice Humphrey was released from Centre County Prison yesterday after bail was reduced from $50,000 to $5,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 3 at Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.

The investigation of Penn State student James Conteh Jr. will continue to determine if he is connected with a string of previous trespassing incidents in McKean Hall, Penn State University Police Supervisor Bill Moerschbacher said.

The status of the Penn State student who was stabbed early Sunday morning was upgraded to fair condition yesterday at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

The Ferguson Township Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred Saturday at the Blockbuster Video, 1101 N. Atherton St.

Police are investigating three separate accounts of sexual assault reported during the weekend. The State College Police Department is investigating two separate sex crimes.

For the Penn State wrestling team, Thanksgiving means one thing: A trip to Thomas Field House in Lock Haven and the annual throw down that is the Mat Town USA tournament.

The home stand for the Penn State men's and women's swimming and diving team will come to an end today as the Nittany Lions host West Chester.

As Penn State men's cross country coach Harry Groves looked through the weather reports last week for Waterloo, Iowa, he noted the temperature was going to be in the low 40s with a chance of rain and snow for the NCAA Cross Country Championships yesterday.

Before the Lady Lions take their early spring break trip to the Junkanoo Jam tournament in the Bahamas, they will get a glimpse of an NCAA tournament regional site the Lions could be playing in come March.

"The end justifies the means," Machiavelli once said. But for the Penn State women's cross country team this just is not true.

Ten weekends, 20 matches, ten conference opponents and it will all come down to the final pair of matches in the Big Ten season.

Senior midfielder Joanna Lohman earned her second-straight first team CoSIDA Academic All-American honor yesterday, one of only four repeat performers on the 2003 list which honors both academic and athletic excellence. Lohman carries a 3.97 in management and is a M.A.C. Hermann Trophy candidate this year, given to the national collegiate soccer player of the year.

The Penn State Field Hockey team, ranked seventh nationally in the final STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll of the season, saw three of its players named to the 2003 STX/NFHCA All-American Team.

Many people in today's society view scientists as impartial observers of the universe, holding no biases or previous positions that could cloud their judgment. At Penn State, committees and ethical review boards oversee the university's research to make sure studies are ethical and unbiased.

Last week, Sprint became the first cell phone service provider to offer customers the option of watching TV programs on their cell phones.

Q: Can duct tape really cure warts?

Posters on bathroom stall doors offer assistance and resources for those suffering from eating disorders, but does it reach students in need? How many students know where to go if they or a friend has an eating disorder?

With the Thanksgiving break finally upon us, students have just one thing on their minds: get out of town, as fast as you can.

Hats off to Tops in Blue, the U.S. Air Force's traveling entertainment group, for outgrowing its venue at State College Area High School, several times over.
