Allowing gays to marry will not hurt institution

In response to last week's articles concerning the Massachusetts' Supreme Court decision regarding gay marriage, I've noticed that those who oppose this ruling state that it ruins the sanctity of marriage. Yet, in a country that has such TV shows as Joe Millionaire and Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, as well as a divorce rate that is among the highest in the world, what "sanctity" exists in modern heterosexual marriage? If anything, sanctity is being reinstated in the institution of marriage because two people who love each other now have the ability to marry.
