State College Borough will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. today at the corner of Calder Way and McAllister Alley by the Tavern Restaurant.
The event will feature Christmas caroling and reindeer. Teresa Sparacino, director of the State College Neighborhood Improvement District, expects a crowd of about 300 to 400 people. "We usually get a pretty good crowd," Sparacino said. Twelve hundred to 1600 bulbs were installed by Penn State's Office of Physical Plant for the tree lighting. The Improvement District also provided other decorations throughout the town, including the lights for the trees on Allen Street. The total cost of the lighting for the State College decorations is about $800. The tree will be lit between 6:20 and 6:30, followed by a visit from Santa Claus.
