Penn State President Graham Spanier and Executive Vice Provost Rodney Erickson have plans to meet with the Dickinson Law School Board of Governors later this week to discuss the future of the school.
"Dean Philip McConnaughay brought to our attention some time ago the critical facilities needs that confront the Dickinson School of Law," Spanier said in a press release.
If the move to University Park is approved, Penn State would need to construct a new building for the law school, which could cost as much as $60 million, a recent mailing to the law school's Board of Governors stated.
Spanier added he would be willing to raise money if the Board of Governors approved the school's relocation.
This summer, McConnaughay began re-evaluating the law school's status and Spanier asked him to consider academic interests of the school's future law students.
Penn State also asked McConnaughay to prepare a document to share with the Board of Governors and the rest of the law school community.
Any decision to move the law school will rest initially with the law school's Board of Governors and such an action would have to be subsequently ratified by Penn State's Board of Trustees.
