One suspect arraigned in theft of computers

Tobias M. Rhoades, 31, of Altoona, was arraigned before District Justice Bradley Lunsford yesterday on charges of retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft.

He has been committed to Centre County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 26 at Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.

According to court documents, the charges stemmed from an April 1 incident when Rhoades and two other defendants, Jennifer Lamb and Franklin Reed Jr., allegedly tried to steal two computers from Wal-Mart, 1665 N. Atherton St.

The court documents state that Lamb allegedly distracted an employee watching Wal-Mart's front door while Reed and Rhoades each allegedly exited the store with a computer. Police said Rhoades stole a computer but that Reed left the computer he was carrying in the store's parking lot as he ran from a store employee.
