University vice provost arrested on DUI charge

Penn State Vice Provost of Information Technology James G. Augustson, 58, was arrested on Sept. 27 for driving under the influence.

Augustson was involved in a minor two-vehicle accident on the 1500 block of South Atherton Street. A standard field sobriety test was performed after police detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

He was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center where blood tests were taken. He was found to have a blood alcohol content of .138.

Augustson chose to waive his right to a preliminary trial, which was set for Nov. 5. His next court date is set for Jan. 27.

No one from Penn State Public Information was available for comment because administrators were attending an out-of-state conference.
