"You have to forget about how you feel and mentally get after things," Biedermann said. Penn State women's swimming and diving coach Bill Dorenkott was proud. "We put forth our best efforts today and we kept bringing the intensity throughout the meet," Dorenkott said.
For the Huskies, Olson led the way by setting the Washington record for the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.71 and the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:55.52. Lions' Lisa Silvestri won both the one- and three-meter diving events. All of the divers from the men's and women's team, except Marc Gastaldo who did not compete, made the national cut by earning a combined score of at least 275 for the women and 300 for the men.
Silvestri as well as junior Courtney Stanchock led the way for the women by winning two individual events each.
"We'll get better with more practice," Biedermann said. "We want to win the Big Ten, take as many people as we can to NCAAs, and take it to [opponents] like we did today."
