At Friday's Board of Trustees meeting, President Graham Spanier addressed the potential move of the Dickinson School of Law of Penn State to University Park.
Although recent reports have indicated that a decision could come in the near future, Spanier confirmed that officials are only beginning to discuss relocating the law school to the university's main campus.
He said the possibility of a move should not have been made public at such an early stage, but that Dickinson's Board of Governors could decide to explore this option.
"The story that you read is mostly right," Spanier said. "Within the last couple of months, the dean of Dickinson Law School has been looking at the future of the law school."
The Dickinson Board of Governors is expected to discuss a move at a meeting this week. The final decision on a move to University Park rests with that board. If the Board of Governors approves the move, discussion will continue by Penn State's Board of Trustees. If the move were approved, Penn State would have to pay $60 million to build a new facility at University Park. However, funding for that purpose does not exist at this time, Spanier said.
