Laura Sullivan, marketing and communications director at the Center for the Performing Arts, has not listened much to Wilson's tunes, but she cannot wait to attend the concert and hear Wilson's unmistakable voice.
Sullivan said, "Wilson has a very recognizable voice. I mean, she is a contra-alto."
Wilson covers some pop tunes of old, but she also manages to pen her own material as well. Her sound is eclectic, melding elements of American folk, jazz and blues into her own home-brewed melodies.
Kennedy said, "She does covers, but I find her most compelling in her originals. She really understands what jazz is all about."
Although she has been compared to numerous other female jazz vocalists, Wilson has a sound all her own. She has become increasingly popular in the music community, attracting listeners from outside the jazz community with her unique and modern jazz blend.
"She is arguably as popular as Diana Krall," Kennedy said.
Wilson's upcoming concert certainly has some community members waiting impatiently. Dan Yoder, director and professor of jazz studies, is one of those fans looking forward to her performance. His students are also excited for the show.
"I have talked about it with my students," Yoder said. "We changed the date for one performance of a jazz combo so we could go to the concert."
Tickets are still available for this musical performance. Student tickets are $10, $18 for people 18 and younger, and $28 for general audience members.
These tickets are available at Eisenhower Auditorium, the HUB information desk and Penn State Tickets Downtown, 146 S. Allen St.
