NEWS

Officials attribute last year's low growth of foreign student enrollment in U.S. colleges to post-Sept. 11 immigration laws.

A Pennsylvania legislator is sponsoring a law that could result in ID tags being placed on beer kegs.

The state Senate has proposed to raise the cost of alcohol in bars while possibly lowering the tax on items in liquor stores for licensed establishments.

Although a recent Harvard study says campus diversity may decrease binge-drinking incidents on campus, Penn State's current rate of alcohol-related arrests shows an opposite trend.

Despite recent speculation about a possible conflict of interest, Penn State trustee Barry Robinson said his work with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) played no role in a recent agreement to bring the Napster online music service to Penn State students in the spring.

Penn State Police Services said yesterday a recent fire in Sproul Hall has been ruled arson.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) President Steve DiOrio spoke to State College Borough Council last night about the increase in noise complaints and underage drinking offenses at fraternities this semester.

Officials attribute last year's low growth of foreign student enrollment in U.S. colleges to post-Sept. 11 immigration laws.

At a time when many students are seeking off-campus housing for next year, there are many important factors for students to consider, such as participation in university activities and transportation.

A decision to drop driving under the influence charges against a man who tested twice the legal limit has drawn both criticism and praise from students and officials.

Members of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Academic Assembly raised questions regarding several prominent issues to Penn State officials at last night's meeting in 330 HUB-Robeson Center.

SPORTS

Imagine a group of dedicated athletes that travels the country every season in search of the finest competition available while dominating their opponents.

Although it was one of the very first to be dismissed from the Big Ten Tournament in Madison, Wisc., last week, the Penn State women's soccer team made the most noise before a single match was even played.

Penn State forward Bill Downey stripped a Drexel player of the puck just across the blue-line causing the crowd to erupt in eager anticipation of the solid scoring chance to come. Reading the play, defenseman Eric Harbaugh burst up ice, joining Downey on a two-on-one break.

The names Brown and Russell are commonplace in the world of basketball. There's Bill Russell and Bryon Russell, Dee Brown, Kwame Brown and Larry Brown -- just to name a few.

The ball was there and moments later it was gone -- resting on the cold, hard, snow-covered turf that was Ryan Field.

This past weekend three of Penn States youngest fencers took on the world.

Penn State knew one thing heading into the locker room at the end of the first half against Northwestern.

At high school practices around the country, coaches preach to their punt returners that if the ball is going to go over their head at the 10-yard line to let it go.

After coming off of another incredible regular season in which it won its sixth straight Big Ten title, the Penn State women's soccer team recorded a disappointing loss in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament for the second straight year.

Down 36-27 in the first half, Penn State regrouped quickly on defense as all five members of the team slapped the court in unison, as they've done since Ed DeChellis took over as head coach.

Five Pennsylvania stations will televise Saturday's Penn State-Indiana game with the addition of WPHL-TV (Philadelphia) and WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh).

Limited file-sharing plan will not protect students

SCIHEALTH

Reactions to the partial-birth abortion bill signed by President George W. Bush last Tuesday have been widespread throughout the Penn State community as well as across the nation. While some have strong opinions about the procedure known as partial-birth abortion, many students do not wish to comment, often because of the lack of awareness of how the procedure is performed.

Day after day and morning after morning, squirrels scamper across campus almost oblivious to the thousands of passersby on campus, but the question remains. Why are they so tame?

QWhat is that green stuff all over the ground on campus?

Q I've been with my boyfriend for almost a year, and it seems like lately we fight about everything. We start out with one small argument, and next thing you know it's one big fight. What can I do to stop this?

ARTS

It's a common misconception that vinyl records are just musical antiques, whose only purpose in modern music is to sit on a DJ's turntable. But for stores like City Lights Records, 316 E. College Ave., and Arboria Records, 119 E. Beaver Ave., they are a means for new appreciation.

Standing together on the cramped stage of Abilene, a small bar on South Street in Philadelphia, the members of My Name is Rossmer (MNiR) are appropriately introduced by Mark Landgraf of Modern Records as "the inspiration for this rock carnival."
