Locked doors will stop dorm room assaults
This letter is in regard to residence hall assaults ("Student assaulted in own dorm room," Nov. 10). For the past several years, I've watched as this alarming trend has increased at Penn State. Surely, this is a very, very difficult problem to deal with. I like some of the steps taken by Penn State residence life to combat the problem. When I was a junior at University Park in 1997, I remember freely walking in and out of unlocked dorms, male, female and co-ed, unescorted. Those easy-access days are long gone. However, these preventive measures have not been sufficient. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and I propose a radical new safety procedure for all dorm residents -- lock your door.
