The new bright yellow "yield to pedestrians" signs stuck right in the middle of the main streets downtown have added more clutter to an already congested area ("Signs to improve pedestrian safety," Nov. 7). It was hard enough already for the giant buses to drive downtown. Thanks to the borough, drivers can no longer concentrate on looking around trucks and buses and SUVs to make sure that someone doesn't run out in front of their vehicles. Now motorists have to keep an eye on these signs instead of making sure that they don't hit pedestrians. The real problem does not lie in the drivers who are just trying to traverse from east to west in a safe, timely manner. It lies in the idea that everyone else is responsible for people who don't care enough to protect themselves.
