Men's Soccer at Indiana

Friday's regular season-finale between Penn State and Indiana will serve as a tribute to a legendary coach and a team perched atop the Big Ten conference.

Sadly for Penn State (7-9, 1-4), the aforementioned coach and team are Jerry Yeagley and the Hoosiers.

Retiring after this season, Yeagley will be coaching the last regular season contest of his storied, 31-year tenure at Indiana.

"It's going to be a memorable game," Yeagley said

The teams first met on Sept. 26, but the game was rained out in the 67th minute with Indiana leading, 2-0, and the match was rescheduled for Saturday.

After losing five straight matches in October, Penn State looked to be slowly climbing back to respectability in a 1-0 win over Lehigh on Oct. 29.

With Wednesday's 2-0 loss against Villanova, however, the Lions have fallen to depths never before reached under head coach Barry Gorman.

The last time Penn State compiled a losing record, Penn State assistant coaches Marlon LeBlanc and Scott Black hadn't been born and Gorman was playing, all the way across the pond, in the Irish League. The year was 1969.

Gorman has recently mentioned his resemblance to a broken record when predicting his team's potential successes, but still feels that the Lions are a team that should not be taken easily.

"If I was coaching against this Penn State team I would be worried, if things started clicking," Gorman said.

Clicking like an empty cap gun as of late, the team's misfortune and ineptitude extend much deeper.
