Penn State Fall Classic
8 a.m., Today and Tomorrow at Sarni Tennis Center
After playing several teams on the road, the Penn State women's tennis team is hoping to end the fall tournament season at home on a high note.
"It's exciting to finally have a home match and since I've been out four weeks with an injury," sophomore Lindsay Downing said.
"A lot of our friends and parents are going to come out to Penn State to watch us."
Weather permitting, the annual Penn State Fall Classic will begin at 8 a.m. today at the Sarni Tennis Center. If it rains, the tournament will be moved inside to the Penn State Tennis Center.
The tournament brings players from both Cincinnati and Toledo.
The Nittany Lions last saw action on Oct. 25 when three members of the team participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships. Leigh Ann Merryman, Maaria Husain, and Megan Marton all lost their respective second round matches. Since then the team feels it's getting more consistent.
"With every week, we're starting to get to the point where we want to be before the season," junior Jessica McKeown said.
"We're putting ourselves on the line."
The Nittany Lions will be off until January 25, 2004 when they open the season at the University of Pennsylvania.
