Penn State student injured in car accident

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 5:45 a.m. yesterday at the intersection of Benner Pike and East College Avenue in College Township.

Penn State student Kaitlee Williams, 18, of Lemont, was extricated from her vehicle and flown by helicopter to Altoona Hospital. She was upgraded from serious to fair condition during the day.

Robert Siebenrock, 57, of State College, was treated and released from Mount Nittany Medical Center.

The roadway was closed and traffic was diverted for about three hours.

Williams was traveling west in her 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera on East College Avenue.

When she approached the intersection with Benner Pike near the Nittany Mall, she failed to stop at the blinking red traffic signal, the State College Police Department said.

The traffic signals at the intersection were blinking red and yellow because the accident occurred during the early morning hours.

Williams' car collided with Siebenrock's 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport, which was traveling east on Benner Pike.

Siebenrock had a blinking yellow signal, police said.

Police said Siebenrock was wearing his seatbelt, and it is unknown whether Williams was wearing one.

Williams was talking on her cell phone at the time of the collision, police said. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Police said the investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call State College police at 234-7150.
