Police seek witnesses to fall

Collegian Staff Writer

Cameras in an apartment building hallway captured footage of the woman who jumped from a seventh-story window on Tuesday, police said.

Police are still reviewing the footage, which was in the form of snapshots because the cameras do not run on a continuous video feed, said Lt. Diane Conrad of the State College Police Department.

Footage showed her standing near a window by the seventh-floor elevators of Calder Commons, 520 E. Calder Way, Conrad said.

She added the woman's suicide note was not found in Calder Commons. Conrad would not say where police found the note.

Police do not know whether the woman was in an apartment before falling onto the building's second-story roof at about 9:50 a.m. Recorded evidence does not show support for that theory, Conrad said.

However, police are not done investigating, Conrad said. Police are still searching for possible witnesses to the incident, she added.

A spokesperson from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville said the woman remained in serious condition yesterday.

Conrad would not release further details about the recorded images because police have not talked to the woman's family yet. Police do not want to make information public that has not been given first to her family.

The State College resident was a Penn State employee and a part-time graduate student, but did not live in Calder Commons.

Penn State has not commented on the suicide attempt. Penn State spokesman Gary Cramer said he only knows what newspapers reported. He added the university might comment in the future.

The Daily Collegian was able to identify the woman's name, which police have not released, but is withholding it due to the nature of the incident.

Anyone with information should contact police at 234-7150.
