Deep Patel, a Penn State student accused of statutory sexual assault, waived his rights to a preliminary hearing, pleading not guilty at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte yesterday.

Parts of these streets will be closed for about 45 minutes starting at 6:45 p.m. Motorists may experience some traffic delays and detour routes will be in effect. Also, traffic on Beaver Avenue will be periodically interrupted during the parade procession.

Members of fraternities and sororities have been showcasing their spirit in the annual Greek Sing since 1968, but last night members of greek organizations had a brand new chance to display their talent at the Greek Sing 2003 Kickoff Party.

A runner holding a top five position on almost any cross country squad is usually a veteran competitor coming out of high school. At larger, Big Ten, Div. I colleges and universities, many athletes have multiple state titles and honors to their names. Typical. Usual. These words do not describe Penn State women's cross country senior and co-captain Maureen Thomas or the way she came to be on the women's team.

Penn State men's golfer Mark Leon said in the days leading up to the Hoya Invitational that if the weather conditions remained acceptable, then the Lansdowne Resort course would be receptive to scoring.

There's nothing new for the Penn State women's soccer team. But, then again, winning doesn't get old.

What a week it has already been for the Nittany Lions.

If you can't find senior captain forward Bill Downey's name in the box score, just look in towards the scrum in the corner.

After scoring the game's only goal yesterday, Penn State's Brian Devlin ran towards the sidelines in what seemed to be improvised celebration, pulling his jersey above his head. In doing so, Devlin revealed a white undershirt adorned with the numbers 0, 1 and 23.

Broadway star Linda Eder will perform a mix of classic show tunes and songs from new musicals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Eisenhower Auditorium. The show is based on Eder's seventh and most recent solo album, Broadway My Way, which was released on Atlantic Records in February 2003.

As you walk down the tapestry-laden stairway you can feel the bass of the beat inside your chest. Amid the hordes of people and hookahs is the reverberation of vocals over an array of instruments, mixed with the dim ambiance the lounge provides. By entering this place you've set foot in one of the emerging components of the budding original music scene in State College.

Alphabet Cooking Show, a program on WPSX-TV, is currently accepting recipes for its December program, "G is for Food Gifts."

First there was a sad boy strumming power chords because he couldn't get a date. Hurrah. Emo was born.

The food was great; the timing was not.

Rock 'n' roll is returning to Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., Tuesday night thanks to the countrified roots rock of Alabama's own Drive-By Truckers. Crowbar-goers will be privy to one of the best displays of rock since another infamous Alabama band.

Halloween weekend at Penn State is usually many things: hectic, colorful, exciting and frenzied.

Halloween fanatics too impatient to wait for tomorrow's festivities can get a head start by checking out Outlaws Theatre's annual Halloween show. The festivities begin at 11:30 p.m. in 119 Arts Building. Admission is free but the producers urge the audience to arrive early.

Three bands are bringing their all-original music to State College for the first time at tonight's Skellerpalooza.


Start the celebration early at Tony's Big Easy, 129 S. Pugh St. Tony's will be hosting its annual costume party, the "Monster Mash Bash," tonight.

Superjoint Ritual's American Heretic Tour will stop at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., Monday. Devil Driver is scheduled to open the show, which begins at 9 p.m.
